INDEX OF ARTICLES ON THE SHUNNING OF DISFELLOWSHIPPED PERSONS

By 7. January 2026Table of contents

There is no text in the Bible telling how disfellowshipped persons shall be treated!

Please consider 1 Corinthians 5:11:

11 But now I am writing YOU to quit mixing in company with (synanamignymi) anyone called a brother that is a fornicator or a greedy person or an idolater or a reviler or a drunkard or an extortioner, not even eating with such a man.

This text is written to the members of the congregation in Corinth, telling them how to treat members of the congregation who practice the mentioned serious sins. No member of this congregation had yet been disfellowshipped.[1] Therefore, “quit mixing company with” and “not even eating with such a man” cannot be applied to how disfellowshipped persons should be treated.

The treatment of disfellowshipped persons is cruel and inhuman. The lives of tens of thousands of disfellowshipped ones are ruined, and great numbers of marriages are destroyed.

A survey of 424 disfellowshipped and resigned Witnesses in Switzerland, Germany, and Austria illustrates the bad results of shunning:

139 (33%) had thoughts about committing suicide.

42 (10%) had attempted to commit suicide.

Shunning disfellowshipped persons is an action invented and introduced by the members of the Governing Body. It has no basis in the Bible, and it contradicts the personality of Jehovah God.

MAIN POINTS OF THE ARTICLES:

JEHOVAH GOD WILL NEVER PRESSURE HIS SONS AND DAUGHTERS TO REPENT BY TOTALLY ISOLATING THEM FROM FAMILY AND FRIENDS AND THE CONGREGATION MEMBERS.

IT IS GOD’S KINDNESS THAT LEADS PERSONS TO REPENTANCE, NOT PRESSURE AND FORCE.

THE MEMBERS OF THE GOVERNING BODY HAVE MISTREATED AND CORRUPTED THE TEXT OF THE BIBLE IN ORDER TO TRY TO FIND EVIDENCE FOR THEIR CRUEL TREATMENT OF DISFELLOWSHIPPED ONES.

REVIEW OF ARTICLES:

HOW TO TREAT DISFELLOWSHIPPED PERSONS? (I) WHO WERE THOSE THAT CHRISTIANS SHOULD NOT WELCOME INTO THEIR HOMES?

MAIN POINTS: CONTRARY TO THE VIEW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GOVERNING BODY, THE ANTICHRISTS, WHOM THE CHRISTIANS SHOULD NOT WELCOME INTO THEIR HOMES WERE NOT APOSTATES BUT MEMBERS OF ANOTHER RELIGION, PROBABLY THE GNOSTICS.

The article analyzes the Governing Body’s new view of 2 John 7-11 and shows that it is wrong.

The antichrists were probably members of the sect of the Gnostics. Second John says that Christians should not welcome these people into their homes.

There is a detailed discussion of the views of the antichrists. They believed that Jesus was a holy man, and “Christ” was the holy spirit that entered the man Jesus at his baptism, and Christ left the man Jesus before his death.

HOW TO TREAT DISFELLOWSHIPPED PERSONS? (II) TREATING THEM IN THE BIBLICAL WAY (a particularly important article)

MAIN POINTS: THE WORDS ME SYNANAMIGNYMI (“STOP MIXING COMPANY WITH”) OCCUR IN 1 CORINTHIANS 5:11 AND 2 THESSALONIANS 3:14. THE MEANING IS NOT TO HAVE RECREATIONAL CONTACT IN THE SPARE TIME, AND NOT ISOLATING THESE PERSONS COMPLETELY.

THE SINS MENTIONED IN BOTH PASSAGES ARE SO SERIOUS THAT THEY CAN LEAD TO DISFELLOWSHIPPING. BUT NO ONE HAD YET BEEN DISFELLOWSHIPPED. THEREFORE, THE WORDS “STOP MIXING COMPANY WITH” ARE NOT A DESCRIPTION OF HOW TO TREAT DISFELLOWSHIPPED PERSONS.

THE WORDS WERE WRITTEN TO THE MEMBERS OF THE CONGREGATIONS IN CORINTH AND THESSALONIKA, DESCRIBING HOW THEY SHOULD REACT WHEN THEY SAW MEMBERS OF THEIR CONGREGATION PRACTICING THE MENTIONED SERIOUS SINS.

The article has a detailed analysis of 2 Thessalonians 3:14, 15, as well as of the Greek words me synanamignymi (“stop mixing company with”).

It is demonstrated that the situations in Thessalonica and in Corinth were similar. Only hypothetical sins in both congregations are discussed. These sins that could be committed in the future were so serious that they could prevent a person from inheriting the kingdom of God.

In neither congregation had anyone been disfellowshipped when the words me synanamignymi were written. But both in 1 Corinthians and 2 Thessalonians, the words “not mixing company with” refer to hypothetical sins that may be committed in the future. In other words, the Greek words me synanamignymi (“stop mixing company with”) are not instructions as to how disfellowshipped persons should be treated.

Second Corinthians 2:6 is analyzed. It suggests that the members of the congregation in Corinth greeted the disfellowshipped man,  spoke with him, and admonished him to repent.

HOW TO TREAT DISFELLOWSHIPPED PERSONS? (III) “UNNECESSARY ASSOCIATION” WITH DISFELLOWSHIPPED AND DISASSOCIATED INDIVIDUALS.

MAIN POINTS: THERE IS A SYSTEMATIC ATTEMPT BY THE LEADERS OF JEHOVAH’S WITNESSES TO MISLEAD THE COURTS REGARDING THE NATURE OF SHUNNING DISFELLOWSHIPPED PERSONS. THE ARTICLE SHOW BY A NUMBER OF QUOTATIONS FROM THE WATCHTOWER LITERATURE THAT THE DEMAND OF THE GOVERNING BODY IS THAT DISFELLOWSHIPPED PERSONS MUST BE COMPLETELY ISOLATED.

The article shows how the Court of Appeals in Norway and the Supreme Court in Canada were misled by two leaders of Jehovah’s Witnesses, and that the leader of the Legal Department in the USA was imposed a fine of 154,448 US $ by the court for a “reckless disregard for providing an accurate and truthful accounting of facts” to the court.

In order to mislead others, the leaders of Jehovah’s Witnesses hide behind the expression “unnecessary association.” It is shown that this expression means “no association at all — total isolation, except in situations where association is unavoidable.

“QUIT MIXING COMPANY WITH” — USING “TWO SORTS OF WEIGHTS”

MAIN POINTS: THE NWT84 AND NWT13 TRANSLATE THE GREEK WORDS ME SYNANAMIGNYMI IN DIFFERENT WAYS IN 1 CORINTHIANS 5:11 AND 2 THESSALONIANS 3:14. THE STUDY NOTES SHOW THAT THE REASON IS THE TRANSLATORS’ VIEW OF SHUNNING DISFELLOWSHIPPED PERSONS. THIS IS THE SAME AS USING TWO KINDS OF WEIGHTS AND MISLEADING THE READERS.

THE ARTICLE ANALYZES THE SINS MENTIONED IN 2 THESSALONIANS AND DEMONSTRATES THAT THEY ARE JUST AS SERIOUS AS THE SINS MENTIONED IN 1 CORINTHIANS 5 AND 6 AND IN ROMANS 16:17

The members of the Governing Body claim that the sins that are mentioned in 2 Thessalonians are minor sins, and therefore, the treatment of the sinners must be different from the treatment of those mentioned in 1 Corinthians 5 and 6. It is shown that this is wrong.

The members of the Governing Body accept that the sins that are mentioned in Romans 16:17 are serious and can lead to disfellowshipping. There is a clear parallel between the sins mentioned in Romans 16:17 and those in 2 Thessalonians, showing that these sins are serious as well.

The sins mentioned in 2 Thessalonians are analyzed in detail. It is shown that they are just as serious as the sins mentioned in 1 Corinthians 5 and 6 and in Romans 16:17.

THE WITNESSES ARE HOODWINKED BY THE APPLICATION OF 1 CORINTHIANS 5:11 AND 2 JOHN 7-11

MAIN POINTS: THE ARTICLE SHOWS THAT THE MEMBERS OF THE GOVERNING BODY USE “TWO SORTS OF WEIGHTS” AND A “CHEATING PAIR OF SCALES” BY PUTTING TWO DIFFERENT MEANINGS IN THE GREEK WORDS ME SYANAMIGNYMI (“STOP KEEPINGCOMPANY WITH”). THERE IS A DETAILED ANALYSIS OF THE SIMILARITIES AND DIFFERENCES BETWEEN 1 CORINTHIANS 5:11, 2 JOHN 7-11, AND 2 THESSALONIANS 3:14, 15.

The following points are discussed:

What do the words “they went out from us” in 1 John 2:18, 19 mean?

Which persons should Christians not receive into their homes?

What do the words “not to say a greeting to him” mean?

What do the words “quit mixing company with” in 1 Corinthians 5:11 mean?

There is an analysis of 2 John 7-11

            SHUNNING — THE ULTIMATE FAILURE

MAIN POINTS: THE ARTICLE DISCUSSES DIFFERENT SIDES OF SHUNNING. OF PARTICULAR IMPORTANCE IS THE DISCUSSION OF HOW SHUNNING WILL UNFLUENCE DISFELLOWSHIPPED PERSONS IN CONNECTION WITH GODLY SADNESS AND WORLDLY SADNESS.

STATISTICS SHOWING THE BAD RESULT OF SHUNNING IS DISCUSSED. IT IS SHOWN THAT OF 424 DISFELLOWSHIPPED AND RESIGNED WITNESSES IN SWITZERLAND, GERMANY, AND AUTTRIA,  139 (33%) CONSIDERED SUICIDE AND 42 (10%) HAD ATTEMPTED SUICIDE.

The misinterpretation of 1 Corinthians 5:11 is discussed.

The misinterpretation of 2 John 7-11 is discussed

The context of 2 Corinthians 2:6 is discussed. It is shown that this text indicates that we should greet disfellowshipped ones, speak with them, and admonish them to repent.

It is shown that 60% of those who are disfellowshipped never return to their congregation. And it is shown why shunning prevents repentance and reinstation.

“AS A MAN OF THE NATIONS AND AS A TAX COLLECTOR” — SHUNNING OR NOT FRATERNIZING?

MAIN POINTS: THE MEMBERS OF THE GOVERNING BODY CLAIM THAT THE WORDS IN MATTHEW 18:17 “LET HIM BE AS A MAN OF THE NATIONS AND AS A TAX COLLECTOR” REFER TO DISFELLOWSHIPPING. THIS IMPLIES THAT THE SINS OF SLANDER AND FRAUD ARE DISFELLOWSHIPPING OFFENSES. THE ARTICLE SHOWS THAT THIS VIEWPOINT IS WRONG.

The article shows that Matthew 18:15-17 relates to the Jewish nation and not to the Christian congregation.

The sins that the members of the Governing Body say that Jesus had in mind was fraud and slander. This has no basis in the text. And fraud and slander are not disfellowshipping offenses according to the Christian Greek Scriptures.

It was the offended person who should view the sinner as a man of the nations and as a tax collector, and not the whole congregation.

[1]. The first member of the congregation in Corinth who was disfellowshipped was the man who lived together with his father’s wife. (1 Corinthians 5:1-5)
