INDEX OF ARTICLES DISCUSSING BIBLICAL CHRONOLOGY AND PROPHECIES
INTRODUCTION
The community of Jehovah’s Witnesses today is, in some respects, very different from the one I became part of 65 years ago. One area where the change is particularly significant is in relation to the prophetic element of the Bible.
For many years after I became a Witness, the writers of The Watchtower spoke the Bible’s prophetic words with a strong voice. Today, it is as if all the teeth of the writers of The Watchtower have been extracted, and the few times when they speak about the prophetic words of the Bible, they lisp with a weak voice.
The reason is that the view of the Bible of the present members of the Governing Body is very different from the view of the Bible of the leaders of Jehovah’s Witnesses and ordinary members in the 20th century.
As a matter of fact, the present members of the Governing Body do not believe in the full inspiration of the Bible.
Belief in the full inspiration of the Bible is built on three pillars:
- Every word in the Bible is inspired by God.
- The nuances and subtleties of the original text are important.
- Every account in the Bible is included with a particular purpose.
The present members of the Governing Body reject point 2). They do not view the nuances and details in the original text of the Bible as important. This is seen in the revised New World translation of 2013, where several thousand small details in the original text are not conveyed into English. The contrast is the original New World translation of 1984, which includes these details and, in my view, is the most accurate English translation ever made.
The present members of the Governing Body also deny point 3) by asserting that most accounts in the Hebrew Scriptures lack prophetic meaning. The consequence of this new view of the Bible is that the present members of the Governing Body, in reality, say that 38 books published by The Watchtower Society and hundreds of articles where accounts in the Hebrew Scriptures are being taken as prophetic dramas and prophecies, are pure fiction![1]
CHRONOLOGY AND PROPHECY ARE BIBLICAL VALUES
I will mention a few points as a background for the articles that will be indexed.
Regarding prophetic time and chronology, I quote Mark 1:15 (above), Luke 21:24 (middle), and Ephesians 1:10 (below):
15 and saying: “The appointed time has been fulfilled, and the kingdom of God has drawn near. Be repentant, YOU people, and have faith in the good news.”
24 and they will fall by the edge of the sword and be led captive into all the nations; and Jerusalem will be trampled on by the nations, until the appointed times of the nations are fulfilled.
10 for an administration at the full limit of the appointed times, namely, to gather all things together again in the Christ, the things in the heavens and the things on the earth. [Yes,] in him.
Jesus started his preaching of the kingdom “at the appointed time,” in connection with Jerusalem, there are appointed times of the nations, and there will be an administration “at the full limit of the appointed times.”
There is no doubt that the Bible mentions different prophetic times. Chapter 12 of Daniel speaks of 3 1/2 times, 1,290 days, and 1.335 days that will be fulfilled, and in Daniel 12:8-10 we read:
8 Now as for me, I heard, but I could not understand; so that I said: “O my lord, what will be the final part of these things?”
9 And he went on to say: “Go, Daniel, because the words are made secret and sealed up until the time of [the] end. 10 Many will cleanse themselves and whiten themselves and will be refined. And the wicked ones will certainly act wickedly, and no wicked ones at all will understand; but the ones having insight will understand.
Daniel refers to several prophecies and says that these, including specific prophetic times, should be understood in the time of the end. So, there is no question that there is a biblical chronology that the followers of Jesus should understand.
Regarding prophecies in the Hebrew Scriptures, I quote Romans 15:4 (above) and Colossians 2:16, 17 (below):
4 For all the things that were written aforetime were written for our instruction, that through our endurance and through the comfort from the Scriptures we might have hope.
16 Therefore let no man judge YOU in eating and drinking or in respect of a festival or of an observance of the new moon or of a sabbath; 17 for those things are a shadow of the things to come, but the reality belongs to the Christ.
Paul refers to the Hebrew Scriptures, saying that all of them are written for our instruction so we might have hope.
We do not get any instruction or hope from the information that Adam was 130 years old when Set was born. (Genesis 5:3) But in connection with the length of the time of the end, this is important information.
We do not get any instruction or hope from the genealogies and the ages of the people mentioned in Genesis chapter 5. But in connection with the chronological importance of the 6 000 years the human family has lived on the earth, this is important information.
We do not get any instruction or hope from the lengths of the sabbath years or the Jubilee, or the laws about these festivals in Leviticus chapter 25. But Paul says in Colossians 2:16, 17 that these are shadows or prophetic types of things that will come. When we study these types and their fulfillments, we get important instruction and hope.
The members of the Governing Body do not accept that the sabbath years and the Jubilee foreshadow particular things in connection with Jesus, or that the other points mentioned have chronological importance.
THE ARTICLES ON BIBLICAL CHRONOLOGY AND THE TIME OF THE END
It is shown that 1914 and 1975 are important years. The appointed times of the nations (Luke 21:24) end in the year 1914, and the presence of Jesus and the time of the end begin.
In the year 1975, humans had lived on the earth for 6,000 years. This is important in connection with the last thousand years of Jehovah’s 7,000-year day of rest. And it is important because it implies a limit on the length of the time of the end.
How the Jubilee in Israel was a prophetic type of the thousand-year reign of Jesus will be discussed in detail.
Jesus shows in Matthew 24:32-36 that his followers should know the generation of his presence, but not the day and hour for the great tribulation. The parts of this composite sign will be discussed in detail.
I have already mentioned the prophetic time periods of 3 1/2, 1,290 days and 1, 335 days that are mentioned in Daniel chapter 12. These time periods identify who the people of God are in the time of the end, and they will be discussed in detail.

The article “The importance of the year 1914 — understanding the appointed times of the nations (Part I)” shows that, to understand the chronology and prophecies of the Bible, we need to grasp 8 basic truths. Daniel’s chronology dealing with the coming of Jesus to the earth is discussed in detail.
Evidence from astronomical cuneiform tablets is presented showing that the year 20 of Artaxerxes I, which marks the start of the 483 years leading to the coming of Jesus, is 455, not 445, as is universally believed.

DANIEL 9:24-27 TELLS THAT 69 WEEKS OF YEARS (483 YEARS) WILL ELAPSE BEFORE THE COMING OF THE MESSIAH. BIBLE EXPOSITORS HAVE GREAT DIFFICULTIES IN APPLYING THESE 483 YEARS TO THE COMING OF JESUS BECAUSE THE UNIVERSAL VIEW IS THAT YEAR 20 OF ARTAXERXES IS 445 BCE.
EVIDENCE FROM PERSIAN ASTRONOMICAL CUNEIFORM TABLETS SHOWS THAT YEAR 20 OF ARTAXERXES IS 455 BCE, AND 483 YEARS FROM THIS DATE LEADS TO YEAR 29 AS THE YEAR WHEN JESUS STARTED HIS GREAT PREACHING CAMPAIGN.
The article “The importance of the year 1914 — understanding the appointed times of the nations (Part II)” shows that the kingdom of God and its establishment is the setting of Jesus’ great prophecy. It also shows that the kingdom of God is the setting of the appointed times of the nations.
It is demonstrated that the presence of Jesus coincides in time with the establishment of the kingdom of God. The difference between “presence” (parousia) and “coming” (erkhomai) is shown, and it lays the groundwork for understanding the relationship between the establishment of God’s kingdom and the appointed times of the nations that will be discussed in Part III.

THE SETTING OF THE APPOINTED TIMES OF THE NATIONS IS THE KINGDOM OF GOD, AND THE ARTICLE LAYS THE GROUNDWORK FOR THE UNDERSTANDING OF THE RELATION OF THE APPOINTED TIMES OF THE NATIONS TO THE KINGDOM OF GOD, WHICH WILL BE DISCUSSED IN PART III.
The article “The importance of the year 1914 — understanding the appointed times of the nations (Part III)” shows that there is a linguistic and a topical (thematic) parallel between Luke 21:24 and Daniel 4:16, 23, 25, 32. This supports the view that the 7 times mentioned in Daniel 4 are the appointed times of the nations. All the important words in Luke 21:24 are discussed in detail. The conclusion is that the 7 appointed times in Daniel chapter 4 represent the appointed times of the nations, and that these are 2,520 years long from 607 BCE to 1914 CE.

THERE IS STRONG EVIDENCE THAT “JERUSALEM” REFERS TO GOD’S KINGDOM, AND THAT THE APPOINTED TIMES OF THE NATIONS REFER TO THE TIME WHEN GOD’S KINGDOM IN ISRAEL WAS DESTROYED UNTIL GOD’S KINGDOM IN HEAVEN IS ESTABLISHED.
The article “The importance of the year 1914 — understanding the appointed times of the nations (Part IV)” discusses the basis for The Bible Students’ view that 1914 was an important date. The Bible Students considered all the extant calculations of prophetic times, rejected one after the other, and found only one reliable: that the 7 times in Daniel chapter 4 represent the appointed times of the nations in Luke 21:24, and that these are 2,520 years long.

AS IS ALSO THE SITUATION TODAY, MOST SCHOLARS BELIEVE THAT THE BABYLONIAN CAPTIVITY LASTED 51 YEARS. THE BIBLE STUDENTS ACCEPTED THE WORDS OF DANIEL AND THE CHRONICLER THAT THE CAPTIVITY LASTED 70 YEARS. THIS BELIEF IS THE REASON WHY THEY USED 606 BCE AS THE STARTING POINT FOR THE 2,520 YEARS WITH THE END IN 1914 CE.
THE YEAR 1914 IS INTERTWINED WITH THE EVENTS OF THE COMPOSITE SIGN FOR THE PRESENCE OF JESUS AND THE TIME OF THE END, AS WELL AS WITH PROPHECIES IN REVELATION. THIS IS A STRONG SUPPORT FOR THE ACCURACY OF THE CALCULATION OF THE 2,520 YEARS.

The article The appointed times of the great Jubilee — the importance of the year 1975 (Part I) provides a detailed discussion of how prophetic types in the Hebrew Scriptures should be treated. The members of the Governing Body have rejected most of the accounts in the Hebrew Scriptures as prophetic types. But there are good reasons to believe that this viewpoint is wrong. Understanding how prophetic types are treated in the Christian Greek Scriptures is the requirement for understanding how the Jubilee is a prophetic type.

They experienced rest from their enemies, but they did not enter God’s rest. Hebrews chapters 3 and 4 show that God’s day of rest continued in the first century CE, and that it was possible for people to enter God’s rest. Evidence is given that the future “sabbath resting” (Hebrews 4:9) refers to the thousand-year reign of Jesus Christ.
“SO THERE REMAINS A SABBATH RESTING FOR THE PEOPLE OF GOD” (HEBREWS 4:9)

One important argument in the article “‘So there remains a sabbath resting for the people of God’ (Hebrews 4:9)” is that “the people of God” refers to those who will live on earth when everything is restored. The article discusses in detail the two different hopes expressed in Hebrews and gives reasons why “the people of God” really refers to those with an earthly hope.
“GOD FORESAW SOMETHING BETTER FOR US, IN ORDER THAT THEY MIGHT NOT BE MADE PERFECT APART FROM US” (HEBREWS 11:39)
MAIN POINTS: HEBREWS IS THE ONLY BOOK IN THE CHRISTIAN GREEK SCRIPTURES WHERE THOSE “WITH A HEAVENLY CALLING” AND THOSE WHO WILL LIVE IN “THE COMING INHABITED EARTH” ARE DISCUSSED AND DISTINGUISHED THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE BOOK.
THE ARTICLE DISCUSSES THE HEAVENLY HOPE, WHICH IS DESCRIBED IN DETAIL IN CHAPTERS 8-10, AND THE EARTHLY HOPE THAT IS DESCRIBED IN CHAPTERS 11 AND 12. THIS SUPPORTS THE VIEW THAT “THE PEOPLE OF GOD” WHO WILL EXPERIENCE THE FUTURE “SABBATH RESTING” ARE THOSE WHO WILL LIVE IN “THE COMING INHABITED EARTH.
The article The divine plan of the ages — the events of the thousand-year-long judgment day (part V) discusses in detail the meaning of Acts 3:19-21 regarding “the restoration of all things.” It shows that Ephesians 1:10 is parallel to Acts 3:21 and also speaks of the restoration of all things. The article The appointed times of the Great Jubilee — the sacred secret of God’s administration discusses how the first prophecy about the woman and her seed and the snake and her seed was a sacred secret for 4,000 years. In the first century CE, different aspects of the sacred secret were revealed. All these aspects are gathered into one unit in Ephesians 1:9-10 by the words “to gather all things together again in the Christ, the things in the heavens and the things on the earth.” The full restoration of all things is what the first prophecy pointed to.

The article Sign 1: “This generation will by no means pass away” Matthew 24:34 discusses the word “generation.” It shows that a “generation” (Greek: genea, Hebrew: dor) does not have a particular length. The word refers to people who live at the same time, and one such generation mentioned in the Hebrew Scriptures spanned 200 years. The time of the end started in 1914, and the generation that saw the sign is still living. A part of the interpretation of the members of the Governing Body of the generation is right, and a part is wrong.

THEIR TIME LIMIT OF THE GENERATION GIVEN BY THEM IS WRONG. HOWEVER, THE CHRONOLOGY OF THE GREAT JUBILEE INDICATES THAT THE GREAT TRIBULATION, WHICH WILL COME BEFORE THE END OF THIS GENERATION, WILL COME MUCH LESS THAN 80 YEARS FROM 2025.
The article Sign 2: “Nation will rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom” (Matthew 24:7) shows that Jesus’ words fit what is called “total war,” and this occurred for the first time in 1914 with World War I. It is shown that Jesus’ words about earthquakes, famine, and pestilence have also been fulfilled in the time of the end after 1914.

The article Sign 4: “The abomination that is causing desolation” Matthew 24:15 discusses the fulfillment of the words of Jesus in the first century CE. The expression “the abomination” was the Roman armies, which stood on the holy ground of the temple, and because of this was an abomination. These armies destroyed Jerusalem, and therefore they “caused desolation.” In our time, “the abomination” refers to the United Nations, which is an abomination because it is a rival to God’s kingdom. It will “cause desolation” when it destroys Babylon the great, all the false religions in the world.

The article The sign 9: Cutting short the days of the great tribulation on account of the chosen ones shows that because the members of the Governing Body apply the expression “the chosen ones” solely to the anointed Christians, their interpretation is strange and incorrect. The meaning is that just as God caused the tribulation of Jerusalem in 70 CE to be so short that 97,000 Jews survived, he will cause the future great tribulation to be so short that the great crowd will survive it.
THE SIGN 9: CUTTING SHORT THE DAYS OF THE GREAT TRIBULATION ON ACCOUNT OF THE CHOSEN ONES (MATTHEW 24:22)
MAIN POINTS: THE ANOINTED CHRISTIANS WHO WILL REIGN WITH JESUS IN HEAVEN HAVE RECEIVED THEIR RESURRECTION BEFORE THE GREAT TRIBULATION. THE “FLESH” THAT WILL BE SAVED ARE THE MEMBERS OF THE GREAT CROWD WHO WILL SURVIVE THE GREAT TRIBULATION.
THE TRIBULATION THAT OCCURRED WHEN JERUSALEM WAS DESTROYED IN 70 CE LASTED ONLY 142 DAYS. BECAUSE OF THIS, 97,000 JEWS SURVIVED. IN A SIMILAR WAY, JEHOVAH WILL CAUSE THE FUTURE GREAT TRIBULATION TO BE SO SHORT THAT EVERY MEMBER OF THE GREAT CROWD WILL SURVIVE THE TRIBULATION.

TIME PERIODS IDENTIFY THE PEOPLE OF GOD

INTRODUCTION
The book of Daniel lists the time periods 1,260 (3 1/2 times), 1,290, 1,335 days, and 2,300 evenings and mornings. Daniel 12:9 shows that the period of 3 1/2 times will be fulfilled by “the holy people,” and Daniel 12:8-10 shows that the people of God should be able to understand the fulfillment of the mentioned time periods.
After 3 1/2 times, the power of the holy people will be dashed to pieces. These words show that “the holy people” must be a tightly united group that can be clearly identified and distinguished from all other groups.
To the best of my knowledge, no other religious group has claimed that the four mentioned time periods have been fulfilled by them and has given evidence from their history of this fulfillment, except Jehovah’s Witnesses. The modern history of Jehovah’s Witnesses related to the mentioned time periods will be discussed. If the presented evidence is solid and trustworthy, the prophetic time periods identify Jehovah’s Witnesses as “the holy people,” the only true religion.
The article “Prophetic time periods identify the people of God” discusses the three time periods mentioned in Daniel chapter 12: 1,260, 1,290, and 1,335 days, and I show that no other group than Jehovah’s Witnesses claims that these time periods have been fulfilled by them. The 1,260 days last from December 1914 to June 1918. The 1,290 days last from January 1919, from the creation of the League of Nations to September 1922. The 1,335 days follow from September 2022 to May 2026.

THE PERIOD OF 2,300 EVENINGS AND MORNINGS LASTED FROM JUNE 1938, WHEN THE ORGANIZATION BECAME THEOCRATIC, UNTIL OCTOBER 1944, WHEN THE LAST ASPECT OF THE ORGANIZATION THAT WAS NOT THEOCRATIC WAS REMOVED.
THE RIGHT CONDITION WOULD LEAD TO CHRISTIAN FREEDOM FOR ALL. IT IS SHOWN HOW THE LEADERS WERE NOT LORDING IT OVER THE MEMBERS OF THE CONGREGATIONS. BUT THE CONGREGATION MEMBERS WERE TAUGHT TO BUILD THEIR FAITH ON A THOROUGH BIBLE STUDY AND TO MAKE THEIR OWN DECISIONS IN ISSUES OF THEIR DAILY LIVES. THIS SHOWS THAT THE HOLY PLACE WAS IN ITS RIGHT CONDITION.
The article “The holy place being brought into its right condition — then relapsing to a wrong condition (Part II)“ shows how the holy place — anointed Christians — relapsed from the right condition to the wrong condition by leaving the theocratic organization and introducing a dictatorial organization. Before 1985, new Witnesses were baptized in the name of the Father, the Son, and the holy spirit. After 1985, new Witnesses are baptized in the name of the Father, the Son, and the organization (= the Governing Body). They were taught to have an extreme veneration for the members of the Governing Body. This is the diametrical opposite of the holy place being in the right condition.
